Where to see Sydney❜s Jacaranda Trees in Full Bloom

I wish that simply enjoying nature's gift was enough, but we know you want to show it off to your friends via a social media post.... go on admit it, you've snapped a jacaranda or two in your time! So, to make your Instagram feed stand out with lilac tones mixed with lo-fi filters and purple heart emojis, here are the best spots to go in Sydney.... just be aware of oncoming traffic.

The best time of year to spot beautiful Jacarandas in Sydney is usually from late October right through to November. 

Where to see Jacarandas in Sydney

In the City

Jacaranda trees in the Royal Botanic Gardens.

What better place to start looking than at the Royal Botanic Gardens, they have jacaranda trees dating back to the 1850s. And you get bonus points for snapping the Harbour Bridge in your shot!

You can also see the trees in bloom as you walk through Circular Quay and The Rocks.

North Shore

Beautiful purple blooms make the streets of Sydney extra pretty.

So popular are the jacarandas in Sydney that the Hunters Hills Trust organises walking tours through the suburb's best streets. Grab your selfie stick and head to McDougall Street in Kirribilli - one of the most beautiful streets in Sydney with canopies of jacaranda trees. If it's full of tourists doing the same then head to areas such as Lavender Bay, Greenwich, Waverton, Longueville and Wollstonecraft which may be a little quieter.

Eastern Suburbs

Paddington, Woollahra, and Double Bay all have purple trees lining the streets during October and November. Start on Oxford Street and make your way up to Five Ways in Paddington then meander down to Woollahra and Double Bay. 

Inner West

There are jacaranda trees dotted around the University of Sydney.

Possibly less crowded (on weekends especially) and with no chance of oncoming traffic is the University of Sydney which has jacaranda trees all over campus. Nearby suburbs of Glebe, Camperdown and Erskineville are also worth taking a look at. 

Greater West

Parramatta Park is awash with Jacarandas during spring!

During Jacaranda season, Parramatta Park is the perfect place to admire the pretty petals that line the pathways and turn the green spaces purple. The gorgeous trees take over the park during Spring creating a shady pastel-hued canopy for locals to admire. Take a walk or a bike ride and soak up the serenity!

Inner East

Camden Jacaranda Festival

A family event celebrating the unique town of Camden, the community comes together in November to celebrate the Camden Jacaranda Festival. Over three days there is music in the streets, the Jacaranda Experience with stalls, Santa, Fireworks, Christmas Tree Lighting and Jacarandas Lighting, food, beautiful cars and motorbikes and lots more.

The dates for the next Camden Jacaranda Festival are yet to be announced - stay tuned!

Grafton Jacaranda Festival

Grafton on the NSW north coast is at the top of the list with their annual Grafton Jacaranda Festival.

In mid-October and early November, the streets and parks of the town are transformed into something a purple dreamscape as Jacarandas explode in full bloom. Street after street is lined with Jacaranda Trees around the area so you can stroll, bike ride or drive to immerse yourself in Jacaranda City.

The Grafton Jacaranda Festival 2023 is running from 27 October to 5 November 2023.
