7 Things to Do in Saint Tropez, weekend guide

In this article, I want to focus on what to do in St. Tropez if you only have a weekend to experience the best of what this location has to offer. Whether you are travelling solo or with a group, I think that two days is enough time to explore everything Saint Tropez has to offer. So without further ado, here is my list of suggestions for the best things to do in St. Tropez over a weekend!

WALK ALONG THE PROMENADE OF THE OLD PORT

The Vieux Port is the city centre of Saint Tropez and one of the most popular attractions! The port is full of tiny fishing boats, yachts, colourful houses and chic cafes, so it is worth visiting.

Sitting in one of the cafes at the harbour and people-watching can be quite an experience! You can take a walk on the streets and admire the paintings made by artists or soak up the atmosphere of the city.

If you like to wake up early in the morning, you can go to Place aux Herbes, which is a market square where you can feel like a real French while buying flowers, fruits or veggies!

St. Tropez is famous because the beaches are beautiful and the water is stunning turquoise! Of course, one of the best ways to enjoy the beaches here is by relaxing on the sand and soaking up the sun. If you're looking for a more active St. Tropez experience, there are plenty of water sports and activities available for visitors.

You can get to most of the beaches in Saint Tropez by car, so it's a good idea to rent a car while in the city.

TAKE A BOAT TOUR OR HIRE A BOAT

In case you don't own a beautiful boat parked on some of the piers of Saint Tropez, you can rent one for a day. Even though this activity is quite pricey, it is worth it if you are a fan of yachts – and St. Tropez is the best place to do it. Or you can take a 1-hour guided Saint Tropez boat tour around the area and you will be told about all the popular tourist sites: the Maritime museum, the Citadelle, the Baie de Canebiers and some celebrities’ villas

St. Tropez is full of beautiful cafes and bars, making it the perfect place to spend an afternoon or evening. You can people watch from one of the cafes in Old Port or enjoy the stunning views from Ermitage Hotel while sipping on a drink.

In addition to enjoying the cafes and bars, be sure to take advantage of the Dolce Vita lifestyle and explore the city. You never know who you might run into!

CHECK OUT MUSEE DE L’ANNONCIADE

If you find yourself bored after lying on the beach in St. Tropez, it is recommended that you visit Musee de l'Annonciade. The building housing the museum (the old Chapelle Notre-Dame de l'Annonciade) dates back to the 16th century, and the museum has a rich collection of post-impressionist paintings.

Any art lovers will be pleased to know that the collection includes Matisse (six works), Signac and Bonnard, among other artists who lived in Saint-Tropez at the end of the 18th century. In addition to enjoying the paintings, you can also take in a magnificent view of the port from the museum.

VISIT THE CITADEL

The Saint Tropez Citadel, which has an interesting hexagonal shape, sits atop the city and serves as its protector. The walls were built at the beginning of the 17th century, making it one of the oldest structures in Saint Tropez. It's also one of the best spots for Saint Tropez sightseeing.

While you're at the citadel, be sure to visit Musée d’Histoire Maritime. You'll learn all about the city's maritime past and get to see some fascinating exhibits.

STROLL DOWN PLACE DES LICES

Place des Lices is a must-see for anyone looking to get a taste of the authentic Saint-Tropez. This city square is located just a stone's throw away from the Vieux Port, and it's the perfect place to people-watch and soak up the unique atmosphere.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the square comes alive with a vibrant market, selling everything from fresh produce to local handicrafts. Even if you don't plan on buying anything, it's definitely worth taking a stroll through and soaking up the atmosphere. And of course, no visit to Place des Lices would be complete without stopping by Café des Arts to watch the locals play pétanque.
