The River Kwai (Kwai Noi and Kwai Yai) flows through Kanchanaburi and the two rivers merge into the Mae Klong river. Here, Japanese captivated Prisoners of War built the death-railway along the River Kwai during WWII. After conquering in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia the Japanese brought 140 000 Prisoners of War and over 200 000 forced laborers to Thailand to complete a 415 km railroad.
