Fátima is the religious capital of Portugal, and an essential place of visit for many people. This is the place where Our Lady appeared to the 3 children on the 13th. of May 1917, two of them, Francisco and Jacinta - beatified by John Paul II on May 13, 2002.
Between 4 to 6 Million Pilgrims visit Fátima all year round.

One of the oldest universities in the world founded in 1291 is situated on a hill overlooking the city, the University of Coimbra-Alta and Sofia has grown and evolved over more than seven centuries to form its own well-defined urban area of two components within the old town of Coimbra.
The Biblioteca Joanina, or university library, is one of the most visited buildings in Coimbra's university complex. Construction was started in 1717.
