Lopburi is one of Thailand’s oldest cities, being inhabited continuously since the Dvaravati era, that started 15 centuries ago. During the 10th century Lopburi became part of the Khmer empire. The Khmers built a number of impressive monuments, many of which still exist today.
During the reign of King Narai the Great in the second half of the 17th century, Lopburi was made the second capital of the Ayutthaya Kingdom.

Before becoming the world heritage site today, Ayutthaya City was founded in 1350 which used to be the former capital of Thailand and one of the world's largest and most important cosmopolitan. Enjoy a full-day trip out of Bangkok. Then you are traveling through the countryside to north of Bangkok, heading for Ayutthaya. First stop is Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon to see the 42-meter-long reclining white Buddha. Then, head to Wat Phra Mahathat to spot the famous tree that has grown around a Buddha's head. Continue to Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the largest temple in Ayutthaya. Make a final stop in Ayutthaya at Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit to explore the biggest Buddha image in Thailand. This Private Tour begins with a hotel pick up (central Bangkok hotels) to be driven to the ancient capitol city of Thailand, then Siam. Ayutthaya is about 80 kilometres north of Bangkok and visits will be made to its two most famous temples and ruins. Wat Mahathat (famous for being home to the Buddha head in the trunk of a tree) and Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon (famous for its outdoor Reclining Buddha, the Buddha statues surrounding the complex and for it still being a home for resident monks).

It is then off to the Sam Chuk 100 year old Market in Suphanburi Province. Browse in some old wooden shops and visit the award winning museum there.

Then onward to a water buffalo preservation area where you can see and learn about the significance on of buffalos in the history of Thailand's farming.
