We visit the neighborhood of Barra, the place where the Portuguese colony started and where I discovered Salvador some decades ago... but I had more eye for the beaches at that time! We visit the iconic lighthouse to have a splendid view of the bay and ocean. We take the Avenue of the 7th of September to get to the Pelourinho, my favorite place in Salvador.
It's also called the Historical Center, a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO, and it's a must for the visitors. A complete old neighborhood, upon a cliff inside the bay, full of churches and magnificent colorful mansions in typical Portuguese colonial style. We visit this place walking through the lively squares and cobblestone streets experiencing the local atmosphere and people that will not let you impassive.

One of my favorite places in the Upper City is the Pelourinho neighborhood, where besides the beauty of the monuments, squares and colonial houses, you can feel the sympathy, energy and joy of the Soteropoletanos - that's how the locals of Salvador are called - who work and live in this lively neighborhood. Maybe you'll be able to experience some action, like Capoeira dancing or a local drum band performing in the streets.

Olodums Home of the Band that filmed a video with Michael Jackson. From there we take the lift down to the lower part and have the oppertunity to make some souvenier shopping..

Barra, built in 1536 to protect the Bay of All Saints, in 1698 it gained a lighthouse to guide the arriving vessels, it works until today, the Farol da Barra. We will visit Forte São Diogo, there we will have a wonderful view of Baía de Todos os Santos. We will pass through Corredor da Vitória, Largo do Campo Grande (one of the carnival circuits), and Avenida 7 de Setembro. We will start our walking tour to Pelourinho (Historical Center of Salvador), stopping at Praça Municipal which has a panoramic view of the Lower City (Lacerda Elevator, shops, Porto de Salvador and Mercado Modelo), Praça da Sé, a place that keeps the ruins of first Basilica in Brazil next to the first Archiepiscopal Palace in Salvador. we continue the City Tour towards Largo do Pelourinho, where the Rosário dos Pretos Church and the Casa de Jorge Amado Foundation are located.
