The Lower Loop tour begins in Gardiner, Montana and begins heading south. Depending on external conditions, guide recommendation, and client preference, we can head either way around the loop.. We have extensive experience in navigating popular features and making it easier to fit them into our itinerary. From here, we make our way to some incredible thermal features and many of the most popular thermal basins. After a morning of visiting many of the thermal features between the Midway and Lower Basins, we'll head to the most iconic feature in Yellowstone, Old Faithful. From there we will travel over Craig Pass to Yellowstone Lake. Stopping at the West Thumb Thermal Basin; a thermal basin with unique structure and history. Then we will travel past Fishing Bridge. Next passing through Hayden valley to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, visiting the Upper and Lower Falls, and Artisan's Point. From there the tour returns to Gardiner, Montana, additional destinations may be possible.

If you only have one day to visit Yellowstone, this 1-day, 200+ mile private tour of Yellowstone’s Lower Loop is the tour to take. After departing Jackson, we’ll drive north through Grand Teton National Park while transiting to Yellowstone, making several stops to take photos, admire wildlife, and take advantage of the Flagg Ranch restrooms. Using bathrooms with running water is simply how we roll. We’ll then enter Yellowstone through the South Entrance just a little before 9 AM. From there, we’ll continue driving north to West Thumb Geyser Basin, then to the famous Lake Yellowstone Hotel for a short coffee break. We’ll continue traveling north from the hotel to admire the Mud Volcano, Hayden Valley, and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone before taking a lunch break at Canyon Village. Continuing west from Canyon, we’ll explore Fountain Paint Pots and Grand Prismatic Hot Spring. We’ll cap the day with a visit to the Old Faithful Inn and see Old Faithful gush in all her glory.

This Active Van Tour is a great way to see Yellowstone National Park beginning in the fun gateway town of West Yellowstone. The early morning part of the tour explores wildlife haunts in the famous Shadow Canyon of the Madison River. This area is home to bear and elk. Later we hike to an overlook of the famous Grand Prismatic Hot Springs. If you don't feel like walking we find a safe, scenic spot for you to wait for the group near the van. Next we explore the Old Faithful area, including some time at the famous Old Faithful Inn. We continue over the continental divide at Isa Lake and down to the West Thumb Geyser Basin on Yellowstone Lake for a view of some spectacular lakeside thermal pools. Continuing our drive along Yellowstone Lake we arrive in the Hayden Valley where big herds of bison roam. Finally, we arrive at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone to view the canyon and the amazing falls (one is almost 200 feet tall!). The day concludes back at West Yellowstone.

This is the only tour which covers both Yellowstone's south (lower) and north (upper) loops in one day!

The roads through Yellowstone make up a massive figure of eight, called the Grand Loop Road. Tour companies generally divide their tours into a day travelling around the bottom or lower loop of the figure of eight, and another day touring around the top or upper loop of the figure of eight.

Well, we do the entire Grand Loop Road in one day! Amongst the areas we visit and the sights you will see are:
Old Faithful (of course!) and the Upper Geyser Basin
Grand Prismatic Spring and the Midway Geyser Basin
The Lower Geyser Basin
The beautiful West Thumb Geyser Basin on the shores of the incredibly blue Yellowstone Lake
Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and Artist Point, towering high above the Yellowstone River, as well as the upper and lower falls

Fairy Falls is Yellowstone's most popular hike, and you can add on another trail from there to Imperial Geyser, which is surrounded by a particularly beautiful pool! The hike takes five to six hours, from West Yellowstone.

Crossing the Firehole River, we'll walk through the Midway Geyser Basin, coming across a few smaller hot springs, until we see steam billowing off both Grand Prismatic Spring and Excelsior Geyser Crater.

After passing the rear of Grand Prismatic, we'll take a side trail to Fairy Falls, through a forest of new growth lodgepole pine trees. From Fairy Falls we'll make our way across a creek towards Imperial Geyser.

The trail is pretty deserted now, as we meander in and out of forests, and across an open plain. We'll eat our sack lunches at the colorful Imperial Geyser, hopefully watching it erupt as we do so! Spray Geyser is visited on the way back.

The hike is about six miles (9.6 kilometres) round trip.

At least half the group must have bear spray!
