We will meet in Tbilisi and head south-east towards the Georgian-Azerbaijani border. The only village that you will meet on the way to the monastery, as if making excuses because of its location in an arid area, is called Udabno (desert - in Georgian). David Gareja is a rock-hewn Georgian Orthodox monastery complex located in the Kakheti region of Eastern Georgia, on the half-desert slopes of Mount Gareja. The complex includes hundreds of cells, churches, chapels, refectories and living quarters hollowed out of the rock face.The complex was founded in the 6th century by St. David Garejeli, one of the thirteen Assyrian monks who arrived in the country at the same time and complex never stopped functioning. The tour starts from Tbilisi. Our guide and driver will meet you at your hotel. Drive to semi-desert area near Gareja. On the way stop at a local supermarket to take some snacks. Arrive in David Gareja Monastery and start walking up to explore the Lavra Cave Monastery, founded in the 6th century.Then go on a lovely trip to Signagi, one of the most beautiful towns in the area, with unusually peculiar architecture, charming houses, cobblestone streets, defensive walls, and spectacular views of the Caucasus range. Sighnaghi was nicknamed ‘the city of love’ for all the weddings it hosts. Sighnaghi is an incredibly romantic little town to explore on foot. Just 2 km from Signaghi, you will find Bodbe Monastery. The area around the monastery is covered by wonderful flowers, bushes, and vineyards.
