We visit the neighborhood of Barra, the place where the Portuguese colony started and where I discovered Salvador some decades ago... but I had more eye for the beaches at that time! We visit the iconic lighthouse to have a splendid view of the bay and ocean. We take the Avenue of the 7th of September to get to the Pelourinho, my favorite place in Salvador.
It's also called the Historical Center, a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO, and it's a must for the visitors. A complete old neighborhood, upon a cliff inside the bay, full of churches and magnificent colorful mansions in typical Portuguese colonial style. We visit this place walking through the lively squares and cobblestone streets experiencing the local atmosphere and people that will not let you impassive.

The best way to experience the city of Salvador, dive into its history, culture, religiosity, and the habits of the people of Bahia, is to combine the Upper City and Lower City tours into one Full Day tour (see also the descriptions of the Upper and Lower City tours).
One of my favorite places in the Upper City is the Pelourinho neighborhood, where besides the beauty of the monuments, squares and colonial houses, you can feel the sympathy, energy and joy of the Soteropoletanos - that's how the locals of Salvador are called - who work and live in this lively neighborhood. Maybe you'll be able to experience some action, like Capoeira dancing or a local drum band performing in the streets.
You will have the opportunity to lunch in a cozy, local restaurant and taste one of the delicious regional dishes, such as my favorite, the "moqueca", a stew of fish and or seafood prepared in the African way!

Praia do Forte is a Brazilian beach located in the homonymous district, in the Bahian municipality of Mata de São João, about 50 km from Salvador. Lots of natural beauty mixed history make Praia do Forte one of the most sought after destinations on the northern coast of Bahia. There are more than 12 km of beaches, with several natural pools formed by reefs along the coast. The coconut trees, the predominant vegetation in this region, make the look even better. Enjoying the beaches and the beautiful scenery invite you to relax. One of the main attractions of the place is to visit the headquarters of Projeto Tamar, an organization dedicated to the preservation and study of sea turtles.

Barra, built in 1536 to protect the Bay of All Saints, in 1698 it gained a lighthouse to guide the arriving vessels, it works until today, the Farol da Barra. We will visit Forte São Diogo, there we will have a wonderful view of Baía de Todos os Santos. We will pass through Corredor da Vitória, Largo do Campo Grande (one of the carnival circuits), and Avenida 7 de Setembro. We will start our walking tour to Pelourinho (Historical Center of Salvador), stopping at Praça Municipal which has a panoramic view of the Lower City (Lacerda Elevator, shops, Porto de Salvador and Mercado Modelo), Praça da Sé, a place that keeps the ruins of first Basilica in Brazil next to the first Archiepiscopal Palace in Salvador. we continue the City Tour towards Largo do Pelourinho, where the Rosário dos Pretos Church and the Casa de Jorge Amado Foundation are located. Our tour starts at Farol da Barra “the geographical limit of the Bay of All Saints with the Atlantic Ocean” where we stop for photos. We continue towards the Dique do Tororó, where the sculptures of the Candomblé orixás and the Fonte Nova Arena are located.
The tour continues through the lower city through the Américo Simas tunnel, passing through the port area and crossing the commercial district of Calçada. Just ahead is the Largo de Roma, where the Social Works by Sister Dulce are located, continue along the Avenida dos Dendezeiros, reaching the Bonfim Hill, where we stop for photos at the most famous church in Salvador due to the traditional “Lavagem do Bonfim”. We pass by the Monte Serrat Fort, with its beautiful view of the Bay of All Saints.
Then stop at the Mercado Modelo to appreciate the local handicrafts, where the colorful handicrafts, the sea in the background and the sound of the berimbau stop the gaze of tourists and people passing through the place. Return to the Hotel

Normally we leave the harbor around 9 am and return by 4 pm; however, the duration and departure times are subject to your arrival in Salvador da Bahia.
